Well all those Happy New Year wishes are now in the past - are
you ready to get down to business and get to making your New Year
a little Happier.
2004 was a year to be remembered - some good - some bad, as in all
years, but somehow 2004 stands out as one to be remembered.
Lots of resolutions have been made. Was one of yours to have an
internet business this year?
A dream come true for some and a nightmare for others.
Just a few hints to get you motivated and in the right direction.
1. Have some idea of what you want to do. The big mistake some people
make when they want to go into business is "information
overload." - Don't go looking at all those web sites that
tell you how to get rich while sitting on the beach and let
your computer do the work for you. If you believe that you are
in for another tidal wave. If you put nothing into your effort
you will get nothing out of it. Let no one fool you - internet
business is long hours and hard work. At least until you get
things up and running.
2. Don't go filling up your computer with all these free e-books that
tell you just how to do it. Find only 3 people that you want
to follow - search their web sites, check them out and let
them be a role model for you - you don't need every free e-book
taking up space in your computer and you will never find time
to read.
3. Don't buy every product that sounds like it will have you swimming
in money. Many new marketers come to the internet and it is
like a kid in a candy store. All these goodies for free. You
will become so confused and going in so many different directions
swearing that all this internet business is a big scam. Remember
there are plenty of scams out there - just don't be part of any
of them. Just because you got taken by someone that does not
know his business, does not mean that everyone is like that -
there is success to be had - find the right niche, work it and
learn from it.
4. Don't start off with a free host. You will waste your money and your
time. My first website was for my Diamonds from Heaven poems,
this all seemed so cool to me - I knew nothing about the web
or how it works. I spent many, many hours building my site and
it was very successful - the poems ministered to thousands and
thousands of people - after having listed my site all over the
web and having people link to me - the server decided to upgrade
change my address for the poems - there were over 80,000
visitors that could no longer find my site. The e-mails stopped
and I no longer hear from very many people that find the site
and I just don't have the heart to put all that time into building
up the traffic again - although I have a domain now for Diamonds from
Heaven - it still has not picked up the steam it once had.

5. You can make some money with affiliate programs that build your
website for you - I have several myself - but find one that
will at least let you have some say as to what is put on your
page and add some of your own links - all those "look alikes"
have been overdone and you need to be making some money from
your links - not just making it for the other guy.
6. There has been a lot of money made by MLM (Multi Level Marketing) -
however, be very careful of these as in most cases the only
people that make good money are the top of the ladder. Most all
marketing is MLM in one form or another - word of mouth spreading
a good opportunity - just check them out very carefully.
7. Choose your host with care - you can find them for as low as $5.00
per month - remember you get what you pay for. I have some for
$9.95 and some for $24.95 - but the ones for the $24.95 are a
better investment - have better features, good customer service,
easy to build your sites and a chance to make some money as
well as hosting your site. I have one at Host4Profit which is
the best I have found and every subscriber that goes through
your link you will receive $10 per month as long as they stay.
This more than pays for your hosting and gives you some extra
money to put back into your marketing fund. You can check it
out here: http://host4profit.com/cgi-bin/home.cgi?7852 (I know -
a shameless plug)
8. Instead of trying to find your way up this information highway - find
a good marketer with a course that will walk you through it all.
Of course they are trying to sell you their products - but isn't
that fair enough for helping you through the maze of marketing?
One that I really recommend is Willie Crawford's beginning
course (not affiliated with this - just think it is a good
product) - Willie is a millionaire made straight from the
internet through his own efforts - he has a free course that
will really help you.
http://williecrawford.com - it is a
20 part course and is free.
Of course, the Starter Kit Haven has an 8 building block steps
which is very helpful and will also get you started in the
right direction. This one is also free
http://starterkithaven.com 9. Don't get involved in several ventures at once - get one up and
running then work on the next one. Just use your daily life
as an example - just look at what is successful in your life
and you will see that it is the one you pay attention to and
follow through on all that you need to do.
10. Well over 90% of internet marketers fail - you can be sure of a
successful venture and one that will save you from the pit
falls of marketing if you just do your homework and follow
those that are successful and not the wannabe's. Get into
some of the good Marketing Forums - the best teachers there
are work these forums and are willing to share their experiences.
Now - these are your don't do's. I wish I had found them 6 years ago.
Would have saved me many headaches. I am a self made marketer
and have all the hard knocks of experience to show it.
Just get busy checking out what you really want and may the new year
bring you many Blessings.
